Sunderland Libraries will be hosting a variety of activities and events to celebrate England’s patron saint, St George. Writer,
musician and historian, Keith Gregson will be visiting the City Library
and Arts Centre from 1.30pm – 2pm to sing songs and demonstrate some
traditional morris dancing that showcases our English heritage. From
2pm, Keith will be taking part in a story telling session with children
from Valley, although the session is open to anyone with young children. Road Primary School In
addition to Keith’s traditional tales, Kay Alderson will be giving a
demonstration of how to create English roses using sugar crafts from
3pm – 4pm. Everybody is welcome, however booking is essential and
tickets can be collected at the City Library and Arts Centre. Sunderland
Libraries will not only be paying tribute to St George on the day of
his death, but there will also be a display in the City Library and
Arts Centre that acknowledges one of England’s greatest playwrights
William Shakespeare, who also died on April 23. The library will also
have a small display, which showcases a few items which are symbolic to
England.
